Yes, it’s possible to fix your credit yourself. With a little hard work and perserverance, and patience, you could get it back up there. What you have to understand is what makes up your credit score:1. Payment history- 35%2. Total debt owed to avialable credit ratio-30%3. Length of time establishing credit-15%4. Types of credit established-10%5. Inquiries and New accounts-10%With that in mind, this is some steps that you should do in order to get yourself in a better financial position to rebuild your score:1. Open a checking and savings account if you haven’t already. While this won’t directly affect your credit score, it does many things. It re-establishes a relationship between you and a financial institution, which by being an customer in good standing, could help make it easier to get approved for credit cards and loans. Most importantly, by opening a checking accountit gives you the single most powerful tool in building credit, to help pay your bills on time, especially if the bank offers online billpay. 2. Gather ALL your credit reports- It’s important to know exactly what’s on your reports. A lot of times, people believe that their credit is so bad, that they don’t bother to check their reports for mistakes, and trust me, mistakes DO happen. The credit bureaus don’t get paid to be accurate, they get paid to report. It’s important that you gather reports from all 3 agencies to determine not just who and how much you owe, but to make sure that what’s on there is even correct. If you do happen to find something that you’re sure is not right, you should dispute with all 3 agencies, they all have an online dispute feature in which you can dispute the item. Once you’ve made sure that there’s no inaccuracies on your report, then you should arrange your debts from most recent and lowest amount to oldest and highest amount. Debts that are newer than 2 years are hurting your score the worst and should be handled first. What you should know that just paying off debts, especially collection debts will not help your score. A “pay to delete” or “deletion payment”, which is a payment in exchange for removing it from your report completely. I posted several links that explains this more in detail. If you’re sucuessful, this will help your score.3. Open new credit- I had mentioned in #1, about opening a checking and savings account with a bank or credit union, I’m going to tie that in with what I’m about to say. Some major banks (Bank of America, Wells Fargo, USBank, Orchard Bank) and some credit unions offer secured credit cards, which are credit cards that require a deposit to establish credit. Whatever you deposit would be the credit line, for example, if you deposited $300, then your credit line would be $300. The deposit isn’t used to pay for what’s purchased on the card, you would still need to either pay in full or make monthly minimum payments. The deposit is used only if the account becomes delinquent and goes to collections. A couple of good things is that you can increase the credit limit by adding to the deposit, which can help your score because it creates a much needed cushion between the total debt that’s owed and the available credit, and also the deposit is sometimes linked to a savings account which earns interest while you’re building credit, so the deposit isn’t just sitting there. A good way to build credit with the card is to make small purchases ($20/month max) and pay it off on time every month, while adding to the deposit. Usually after a year or so, of paying it off on time, the card either converts to a regular card or it’s upgraded to a better card, and most importantly the deposit isn’t needed anymore and it’s given back. My suggestion would be to open another secured card and repeat the process or open 2 at a time, which would speed things up. If you make small purchases, pay it off and increase the limits, that will really help your score. In the end, you’ll have 2 credit cards with decent limits and an emergency fund from the deposits. Since you already have some CC’s you’re paying on, you should be ok on this.4. Enroll with PRBC- PRBC is America’s Alternative Credit Bureau, providing a helpful service to the over 50 million people with limited or no credit history. If you pay your monthly bills on time, PRBC can help you build credit to qualify for a mortgage and better interest rates.On-time payments for the following bills are not reported to the traditional credit bureaus: RentCablePhoneDaycareInsuranceElectricNatural GasCell Phone The only time your payments for these bills are reported to the other credit bureaus is if they’re missing or late. With PRBC, your on-time payments count. You build credit for paying your bills on time, even if you have no credit history. PRBC offers two simple ways to start building credit today. In closing, just a few more things to keep in mind. -Don’t spend more than 30% of your combined available credit on all your cards. -Only apply for credit when necessary. -Pay on timeHope this helps…Thanks for reading and…Good luck!

First of all, everyone who has cridet has some sort of cridet rating. If your accounts were paid off, it should actually raise your score, but not knowing the facts I can't really say. As to not having cridet rating for 6 years, I understand that bad cridet stays on for 7 years. You can try myfico.com to get a cridet rating. They give you 30 days free. For instance if your cridet report does not show much activity or if you are just starting out, myfico.com requires that you have at least six months of paying a few cridet cards in order to get a cridet score. It looks like you may need to re-establish new cridet if your cridet report was wiped clean or if your cridet score is low. I suggest you open secured cridet cards to re-establish cridet (Wells Fargo, Orchard, Bank of America) are just some examples. Once you make payments for six months, you should have a cridet score if you don't have one OR if you have a low score, it should raise your cridet score. However, that depends on establishing good habits of paying on time. Secured cridet cards are great because once you prove to them you are a good customer after one year, they convert your cridet cards to regular cridet cards and any balance from the secured cridet cards are returned to you, plus they report to all cridet bureaus you're great paying abilities on a monthly basis thus raising your cridet score, which is the ultimate financial goal for those trying to reestablish cridet. It IS doable. I did it! Now, I am enjoying Club 700 and all its perks but it took time, diligence and lots of patience.Good luck.P.S. I agree STAY AWAY from cridet repair agencies. They charge a lot for things you can do yourself and many times they don't help (see links below) Get copies of all your cridet reports and use a monitoring system like myfico.com to help you stay on track.P.P.S. Get your financial life back on track and raise your cridet score before you think of a mortgage. Having a low score will get you the HIGHEST interest rates, so have patience and RE-ESTABLISH your cridet before making such a big decision.

So you’ve come into a bunch of money…time to repair your credit. First thing I would do is get a copy of your credit reports and find out what you need to settle. Secondly, don’t deal with the collection agencies unless the original creditor absolutely won’t talk to you. I would recommend paying off your open credit cards first. Then tuck them away and don’t use them. This will take care of the “%available credit” part of your credit score” The next part is cleaning up your delinquint accounts. Call your creditors and see if they will settle for 50% or less of your delinquent balance.Demand that you get a copy of the settlement in writing BEFORE you send them a check. Make sure that any settlement agreement you reach includes what they will do with your credit report…you can see if they will take it off of your report, but if they won’t at least demand that they put the phrase “pays as agrees” or “paid in full” on there. The ideal is that they remove the item from your report entirely. If the creditor sent an item to collections, call the collection agency and demand that they remove the collections item from your report. (This will improve your score). Start with the lowest delinquent balance first and work your way up…the more line items you can remove from your credit file the better. Good luck!

I can’t believe all the people that think credit repair is a scam. Credit repair is 100% legal & possible; it is a lot of credit repair co. that are deceptive scammers. You can repair your credit yourself or hire a reputable co. Go to myfico.com the boards there will give you great advice on how to do it yourself or Sleb Credit Solutions website will give you tips & info on what to look for in a reputable credit repair co & info on how to do it yourself. To the naysayers who don’t know what they are talking about, I have seen credit repair work & things be removed. You have the right under the FCRA (fair credit reporting act) to dispute items on your credit reports. If they can’t be verified, they are removed. A lot of times when you do a dispute online w/the credit bureaus, they will just delete items disputed w/out even taking the time to verify (just being honest). If it doesn’t get removed the 1st time, dispute by mail & persistence will pay off. If the listing is in compliance & is verifiable & the sol hasn’t expired, you can negotiate/mediate w/the creditor to resolve the listing, 1st make them provide verification (you are entitled to proof of your alleged debt, ask for the records). Credit repair works great if done correctly, and has helped many people. In today’s economic crash, people are using credit repair (or doing it themselves)more than ever. Don’t choose a co. showing the BBB logo or claiming to be an accredit member of the BBB, b/c they are misleading you & lying. B/c there are so many deceptive credit repair co. the BBB will not allow cr co. to be members, you can still check the BBB to see if they have any complaints against them. The credit repair industry has a bad rep b/c there are so many deceptive co./lawyers that are scammers. Credit repair isn’t magic & doesn’t happen overnight, but you can start seeing results w/in 45 to 60 days, & depending on how much you have that needs to be removed or resolved, it can be done in 4-12 mths. Sometimes sooner, but no co. can guarantee how long it will take. A lot of co. will drag out the process to keep collecting your monthly pymt. Sleb’s goal is to get the job done as quickly as possible, but we don’t promise a time-frame. Good luck! If you want to go to slebcreditsolutions.com you will find info there, & you can call me & I will be happy to give you advice. Myfico.com (the boards) you can ask ? get advice & see what worked for others.
